Tummy tuck or liposuction?

I am a diabetic for 42 years on insulin and I am also a kidney transplant patient. I weight 150 and my height is 5' 3". My transplant is 15 yrs old. Is it safe for me to have a tummy tuck or liposuction?

Whether or not any surgical procedure is safe depends upon the health of the patient, the nature of the surgery and the quality of the facility in which the procedure is to be performed. Obviously more complex procedures require more rigorous conditions. In this particular case, it is paramount that any discussion of such an elective procedure begin with the internist/nephrologist that is managing your transplant and diabetes. If they feel that such a procedure is reasonable given your current health status then a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon is the appropriate next step.

Best wishes!

Whether to do a tummy tuck or liposuction in a diabetic with a kidney transplant is a question that needs to be answered by two physicians. First you need to discuss your desires with your internist who is caring for your diabetes and immunosuppression. If that person believes you are safe for major surgery, then you need take clearance from that physician and see a plastic surgeon to determine what your best option would be.

Depending on any scars you have on your abdomen, and the quality of the skin and amount of fat, both options are possible but an in-person evaluation is better to answer your question.
