When getting a breast reduction will there be fat pockets left on the sides (under the armpits)?

Is it true that after getting a breast reduction you are left with fatty pockets of skin on the sides? I am referring to the area right under the armpits.

If you can "pinch an inch" or more in that area before the breast reduction is performed, then that "inch" will become more noticeable after the reduction because the breast is relatively smaller. I would ask your surgeon if he/she thinks that you might benefit from some form of liposuction at the same time as performing your breast reduction. Many times this helps to improve the overall appearance of the entire chest region by reducing the extra fat.

There will be unless the operation does something to deal with those which vary from just extending the incision further under the arm pit area (side of chest) to remove the excess skin and fat. If the skin has good tone, liposuction of the area can be done and lastly if the skin is very loose a Fleur-de-lis shaped removal of skin and fat can be done. Just extending the incision further sideways can often be done at no extra cost because the other procedures such as liposuction involve equipment that is often not part of the standard breast reduction fee from a hospital or surgicenter.

In general, no. Excess fat in this area is commonly treated with liposuction at the time of the breast reduction.
