Breast Reduction

Hello, my daughter has size 34DD. It’s causing her a lot of neck and back pains. Her height is 5’1” she weighs 120 pounds. She exercises daily. She was wondering if it was possible if she could get a breast reduction at this age. As what is the average/healthy breast size for her height and weight? If you guys could message back with suggestions that would be great :)

You don’t want to proceed with a breast reduction until growth has ceased, you don’t want to do it twice! Usually by 19/20 growth has stopped and it is reasonable to proceed. If her weight stays stable and no growth has been detected for a minimum of 6 months, you can consider proceeding. Visit a board certified plastic surgeon, well versed in breast reduction to learn all about the surgery and to monitor her breast status.

Thank you for asking. Breast reduction is a very common procedure for women with larger breasts. It is possible for teenagers to have this procedure. Being evaluated in person by a plastic surgeon is critical. As far as size is concerned the “average” has a large range for normal. Picking a size/volume is possible and more likely achieved in cosmetic (non insurance) situations. See your local board certified plastic surgeon. Best wishes!

Thank you for this question. If she is a teenager and has large breasts that are affecting her ability to exercise or carry out her usual daily activities she may be a candidate for breast reduction surgery. In general, it is best to wait until women have reached full breast maturity in their early twenties before undertaking a reduction surgery. There are instances, however, where the symptoms from large breasts outweigh the age considerations. The physical and emotional maturity of the patient, the ability to take time off from school to recover from surgery, and the risk of further breast enlargement after surgery are all things to take into account. I would recommend a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area who can meet with you and your daughter and discuss the options and timing.
