Breast reduction and lift

I recently had a reduction to my right breast because it was larger than my left breast.

I also had both breasts lifted. My surgeon did what is called a batwing lift, he said this was best because I have had radiation done to both breasts. When I took off my bandages for the first time today to my horror now my right breast is much smaller than my left breast. It’s the total opposite of what needed to be done. Why could he have not made them both the same size and you can hardly tell there is any lift. I’m totally in shock and devastated. What can be done now?? Thank you for any suggestions.

Radiation to the breasts limits what should be done to them surgically as the tissues are permanently damaged. Whatever technique your surgeon chose, should obtain an improvement for you. It will take at least 6 months to see the result shape up. After that nothing should be done for at least a year. Again, radiation is the game changer here limiting what could/should be done.

The combination of prior radiation and asymmetry is very complicated. Radiated tissues behave differently during the healing process. It will take 6-9 months to really see the final results so it is best to be patient in the early months of the healing process. If correction is required after full healing has taken place, there are a number of options to address residual asymmetry. Best wishes on a great result.

Radiation affects the tissues as well as the healing after surgery. Give your breasts time to heal and settle (6months to a year) and then you may consider doing corrective procedures. The options will vary but there are options to improve things.

Best of luck
