How Effective is Radiofrequency for Skin Tightening
Nonsurgical Skin tightening procedures have become popular in recent years, up 58% percent in 2015 from 2014, because they offer an alternative option to more invasive procedures for addressing skin laxity and improving skin quality. Board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Daniel C. Mills explains how skin tightening devices can produce results; however these results are not always guaranteed.
“Radiofrequency is very helpful for skin tightening, although sometimes it can be a hit or miss. I have had some patients that have had phenomenal results and I have had some patients that were not satisfied with their results,” notes Dr. Mills. “Unfortunately, I am not able to tell how the results will look ahead of time.”
Dr. Mills explains the importance of managing the patient’s expectations about the procedure. “It’s important to know our patients expectations and to educate them that certain procedures may not show the results they are hoping for.” Nonsurgical skin tightening may require multiple treatments in order to achieve optimal results.
“There is no question that science is there, that you could heat the dermis and get a little bit of collagen production, it is one of the better technologies that we have right now,” notes Dr. Mills. “Skin tightening procedures can produce phenomenal results if we manage our patient’s expectations. There are so many patients that say I am never going to go under the knife, but they will try nonsurgical options.”
