Smart beauty and a high school reunion
By Ron Robinson
I won't tell you my exact age, but my 30th high school reunion is coming up (you do the math). I’m nervous. Although I’m excited to see my old friends and catch up, I feel stressed, too. As I walk in will my classmates immediately see how old I got? Will my high school chums even recognize me?
I know this sounds a bit obsessive (and narcissistic even), but your overall appearance isn’t just based on “looking good” -- being both active and proactive can do wonders for the health of your body, which evidently transfers to how you look on the outside.
Clear, smooth skin. No wrinkles. A youthful glow -- all attainable with a healthy lifestyle, diet and some simple, noninvasive treatments you can get from a dermatologist or plastic surgeon.
I’m doing pretty good for my age. I exercise, make sure I eat a clean diet and wear sunscreen everyday. Maybe I shouldn’t beat myself up.
Although I may not look like myself from high school (the aging process is inevitable), with age undoubtedly comes wisdom. When I was younger, I might have not taken such good care of my skin, but now, I know how to prevent and avoid unwanted damage. I wear sunscreen everyday -- even during the winter months. I incorporate more hats into my wardrobe to protect both my hair and skin.
Avoiding processed sugar is also important, as excess sugar may lead to premature aging! Eating a clean diet of organic vegetables and meat is important to obtaining healthy skin. In conjunction, I make sure to exercise every day. Laurie Casas, MD, a board-certified plastic surgeon, says, “In combination with a daily skincare regimen of thorough cleansing using a cleanser appropriate for your skin type with a Clarisonic, moisturizer, sunscreen and consuming lots of water, skin will look healthier.”
Since I am about to put my entire image on display in a few weeks, a quick, minimally invasive treatment (like Botox, peels and/or lasers) is my next step to great-looking skin
Since I’ll need a quick fix, a treatment that won’t cause any irritation or redness is ideal. Dr. Casas suggests these treatments for an instant youthful effect: Neuromodulators (Botox/Dysport/Xeomin), superficial peels and hydrofacials.
I adore hydrofacials! It helps to hydrate the skin from the inside out. It leaves no redness and contains water that is packed with vitamins and antioxidants. Instantly my pores are cleared and my skin is left looking refreshed.
I can't wait for my reunion. I think I’ll cut myself some slack. I know that I am doing the best I can to stay healthy, and in order to look good I have to feel good. I’m smart enough to take care of myself now, so I can look good for my next high school reunion. But... let’s just get through this one first.
