Why Male Plastic Surgery Procedures Are on the Rise
According to the 2014 cosmetic surgery statistics, male aesthetic procedures went up 43% over a five year period. Dr. Grant Stevens, a board-certified plastic surgeon based in Marina Del Rey, California explains why male aesthetic procedures are on the rise.
“There are a number of reasons for this trend; one of them is people say they wear their resume on their face, so it is driven by that pursuit. Other men just want to look better, they are eating healthy and working out but they still have resistant bulges and areas of concern that women have always been concerned about,” explains Dr. Stevens.
In a study that was published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, the average age of men undergoing cosmetic procedures was 45 years. The study was further broken down between nonsurgical and surgical procedures, results showed that men the ages of 30-40 received nonsurgical procedures such as injectables, fillers, facials and nonsurgical fat reduction. The older groups of men ages 50-70 were undergoing face lifts, eyelid lifts, and nonsurgical body contouring and facial rejuvenation procedures.
