Choosing Between Noninvasive and Surgical Body Contouring Procedures
Body contouring procedures such as liposuction and nonsurgical fat reduction involve the elimination of unwanted pockets of exercise and diet resistant fat. In some cases, the fat is injected into another part of the body such as the breast or buttocks and sculpted to enhance the overall body shape.
“Choosing between a noninvasive and a surgical body contouring procedure depends on a number of factors; how much skin laxity you have, where you are in the aging process, the quality of your skin, what your goals are and what your risk tolerance is,” explains Dr. David M. Kahn, a California based plastic surgeon.
He notes that if the amount of unwanted fat is minimal, then noninvasive treatments might work for the patient; however if the amount of fat is significant, a patient might not be happy with results from a noninvasive treatment.
