  • The Forbes Facelift: It’s a Company Man’s World

    Women may spend more time and money on beauty, but don’t be fooled… many men are as invested in their appearance, and as the stigma against that investment is slowly lifting, a greater number of them turn to cosmetic procedures. Between 1997 and 2013, there was a 273% increase of men getting plastic surgery. They’re a booming part of the industry, which got me wondering, what are men having done? 

  • Moobs be Gone!

    In part one of this story, I disclosed a life-long issue with what is politely referred to as gynecomastia. This, you may recall, is the clinical term for a man developing breasts – the soft bouncy kind, not the shiny, hard pectorals that seem to magically appear on every pumped-up 25 year-old. 

    OK maybe that’s a bit of an overstatement, since gynecomastia can affect a man at any age no matter how much iron you press. Mine surfaced as a ‘tween, disappeared through adolescence into adulthood, only to resurface much to my dismay as I slid into my 50s.

    “Moobs,” (AKA “Man Boobs” or - for the clinically inclined, Gynecomastia), have been in and out of my life like an annoying ex-wife. 

    As a fairly chubby little boy, I recall when a girl came up to me on the beach one day, pointed at me and said, “Aren’t you kind-of old to not be wearing a top?” It took a while for my 12 year-old brain to compute that she thought I was a girl, until I heard my older brother snickering in the background.
