There is usually a simple answer to everything. However, your question does not have a simple answer without having additional information such as knowing a little bit more about your history, your current symptoms and how the breast appears and how it feels with an examination. If you have fever, extreme swelling or constant pain, it becomes more urgent to seek health care right away. If there is no fever, extreme swelling or constant pain then the situation becomes less immediate. First I would suggest that you contact the doctor that did your implant surgery to begin with. He/She will have a better idea about how to proceed. If that doesn't work, seek the advice or the medic or physician stationed at your base [I'm assuming you are with the military]. At least let them know you have concerns and they may be able to help put your mind at ease until your tour is done and you can get back home. It is difficult to completely answer this question because you didn’t mention whether your breast increased or decreased in cup size over time, just that the difference between the two increased. Regardless there are three facts to be aware of. First, no woman has breasts that match each other in size or shape. This is normal. Secondly, breast volume and shape will change with changes in weight, because a certain percentage of the breast is fat. This is most likely the cause of the changes in your breast cup size. The last fact to know is that a breast lift may not hold its position forever, and may need a revision at some point later in a woman’s life. It sounds like you have reached that point. My suggestion is to contact your original surgeon and request advice from him or her in how to proceed. Finally, my experience has been that insurance will not cover much that has to do with appearance, but it may be worth asking the doctor who you choose to revise your breast to check on the policy of the insurance company in that regard. Fat Will last Forever! It is a graft, like a skin graft or a bone graft. You have heard of those. Those grafts don't slowly "melt" or disappear over time. In fact, fat is the only graft that we know that can grow LARGER if there are more calories "in" than there are "out". Simply put, fat can get "FATTER"., which is why a few plastic surgeons don't like to use fat for filler. But fat getting fatter is very very rare. The reason that there is a perception that fat "disappears" over time is that fat, unlike other grafts, is very fragile and when it is used for filler, only about 50% of the fat will survive the transfer process. The fat that does not survive the transfer process is washed away by your body over 3 to 4 weeks , so an incorrect understanding is that the fat is somehow "melting" or disappearing. Just not true! It is possible to undergo a breast lift-reduction under local anesthesia, but the question would be WHY? There is a common misconception among the public that local anesthesia equals safe and general anesthesia equals dangerous. This is not true! With local anesthesia alone, patients are more likely the have painful areas that the local anesthesia just wont reach, so parts may have to be done "bare-knuckling" it. Additional injections may not be possible to achieve additional numbing, because a patient can easily be overdosed by having too much local anesthesia which can potentially lead to seizures and cardiac arrest. Finally, an operation performed under local anesthesia, in my hands, takes longer to do than the same procedure when done with general anesthesia. SO, it is more uncomfortable, somewhat more risky and there is no time savings with local anesthesia. General anesthesia is in fact so safe, there is a much higher chance of dying from an automobile accident driving to the surgery center, than there is have a serious complication from general anesthesia. A Board Certified Plastic surgeon is trained to do this procedure the safest way possible, that is, under a well controlled general anesthetic. If all that is offered to you is breast reduction under local anesthesia, check the credentials of the doctor offering this and see if he/she has privileges to do this at a hospital. If not , that physician may not be a board certified SURGEON and would be many times less qualified to perform any procedure as complex as a breast reduction and or lift. Check carefully before undergoing a procedure like this under local anesthesia! Their are few, if any advantages and there could be potentially be a higher risk than the alternative.
