Breast augmentation timed with another surgery?

I need to have an ACL repair and wondered if I can also have breast augmentation. I am wondering which procedure would be best to get done first and the time frame the surgeon would want me to wait in between the two. Thanks

Your best option would be acl repair first and then do the breast augmentation. The reason is that you may require extensive physical therapy.

Although there would be no significant (surgical) safety issues from having the procedure performed at the same time, there are some post-op and rehab issues that may play a significant role. This would be specially true for a submuscular augmentation. Since the ACL repair is a more "necessary" procedure, it would probably be wise to have that done first. As soon as the orthopedic surgeon releases you for further surgery then it would be reasonable to proceed with the breast augmentation.

Best wishes!

That is a very good question, we are frequently asked about combining procedures. Following a breast augmentation you would be restricted on upper arm movements for approximately one month, including heavy lifting and that would include the use of crutches since there is weight bearing transferred to the upper arm and chest muscles. Although I am not an orthopedist, I am going to assume that after your ACL repair there would be a period of rehabilitation and that you may need to use crutches. The use of crutches would not be possible during the recovery time for a breast augmentation. Talk to your surgeons. If the ACL repair and rehab will put you out of commission for an extended period of time, you might consider having the breast augmentation near the end of your recovery time when you are off crutches and mobile without assistance of devices. If you have the breast augmentation first, you might have to wait longer, around a month, until the ACL repair. Also, which is more important. Although both can be considered elective surgery, do you need the knee repair more in order to alleviate pain and improve your mobility? A number of things to consider and best of luck to you.
