Facts and figures: 15 years of cosmetic surgery statistics [INFOGRAPHIC]
Statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery hits a 15-year landmark in 2011 and show that over 10 billion dollars were spent on cosmetic surgery in the US. Botox celebrates 10 years of FDA-approval in the US this year and has been the most popular procedure every year since making its way to the cosmetic market. While nonsurgical procedures like Botox and fillers have had a huge 356 percentincrease from 1997, surgery still comprises 60 percent of the total money spent on plastic surgery procedures. Liposuction narrowly beats out breast augmentation in 2011 for the top spot, followed by abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), eyelid surgery and breast lift.
The growth in more expensive surgical procedures in a stumbling economy indicates that patients want procedures that guarantee long-lasting results and have high rates of success.
