Popular Surgical and Nonsurgical Aesthetic Procedures for Men
More than one million cosmetic procedures were performed on men last year, according to ASAPS 2014 statistics. Board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Bruce Van Natta shares insight on the most popular surgical and nonsurgical procedures for men.
“Nonsurgical options for men include Botox and Dysport to get rid of fine lines, fillers, and if they are good candidates, CoolSculpting can treat problem areas around the body. A common example is the love handles. All of these are performed without surgery,” notes Dr. Van Natta.
miraDry reduces excessive underarm sweating. Dr. Van Natta who has undergone this treatment attests that it is effective.
“First, the treatment area is numbed and then a microwave technology is used to heat up the sweat glands and the odor glands, and they are gone forever. You don’t have to use deodorant or antiperspirant and you no longer sweat under the arms,” he explains.
Surgical options for men include liposuction which can help men lose the last couple of pounds that are resistant to exercise and diet. Liposuction addresses proportion issues by permanently removing fat cells.
“We see quite a few men seeking treatment for gynecomastia, the development of breast tissue. It is treated with a combination of liposuction and removal of some glandular tissue if it’s needed,” explains Dr. Van Natta.
Common facial procedures for men include eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty and facelifts.
